India’s medical imaging landscape is entering a phase of accelerated transformation, driven by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and machine learning (ML) into magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) workflows. In this context, India’s MRI systems market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 12% between 2025 and 2035, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, “ Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Systems Market Size by Segments, Share, Regulatory, Reimbursement, Installed Base and Forecast to 2036” reveals that India accounts for nearly 22% of the Asia-Pacific (APAC) MRI systems market in 2025.

India’s share is set to grow as hospitals and research centers adopt AI-driven MRI to improve diagnostic accuracy, surgical outcomes, and affordable imaging access in underserved areas.

Time Medical International Ventures (India) Pvt. Ltd., a Fischer Medical Ventures subsidiary, has recently partnered with neurosurgeon Dr. Iype Cherian to develop DRIS-iMRI Medharanya, an AI-enabled portable MRI for real-time neurosurgical imaging.

Integrating AI, AR, ML, and Exoscope technology, the portable MRI system will allow surgeons to visualize brain structures via the Extradural Parasigmoid approach to the Jugular Foramen technique, enabling safer, more precise removal of complex tumors such as glomus tumors and reducing patient risk.

Prerna Gupta, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, comments, “AI-assisted MRI systems represent a key step forward in the evolution of real-time imaging. Their integration into neurosurgical workflows is expected to increase substantially over the next decade.

“The rising trust of clinicians in AI-guided diagnostics, along with strategic funding and policy support, is poised to accelerate market expansion in India. This momentum highlights a robust innovation environment and significant investment potential in the nation’s medical imaging sector.”
