The PGA Championship, the second of the men’s four major golf championships in 2025, attracted a total of 23 sponsors, including new sponsors Airshare, Sugarlands Distilling Company, and Gosling’s Rum.  In terms of annual value, Corebridge Financial and Chase Bank were the joint largest sponsors of the golf tournament in terms of annual value. Despite the addition of three new sponsors, the 2025 PGA Championship recorded a decrease in the sponsorship revenue by $1.81 million to an estimated $50.42 million compared to the 2024 edition, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’ s latest report, “Post-Event Analysis – PGA Championship 2025,” reveals that the final round of the 2025 PGA Championship drew in an average audience of 4.76 million on CBS. The total prize money for the 2025 edition was a record $19 million, an increase of $500.000 from the 2024 edition. As a new sponsor, Airshare entered into a five-year agreement with the PGA of America to serve as the official private aviation provider for the organization.

Olivia Snooks, Sport Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The new partnerships are of lower value, with the highest being worth $2 million annually. The conclusion of higher-value partnerships with KitchenAid and National Car Rental, worth an estimated $1.25 million and $3.5 million respectively, at the end of the 2024 tournament accounted for the slight decline in overall sponsorship revenue of the 2025 PGA Championship.”

Both ESPN and CBS acquired the domestic media rights to broadcast the PGA Championship across the US. The two deals are set to cover the 2020-30 period. Ratings for the 2025 edition of the tournament were down for all three days compared to the previous year. Round three of the 2025 edition averaged 3.11 million viewers on CBS, which was down 12% from 2024. Round 1 on ESPN had an average of 955,000 viewers, a decrease of 13% from the previous year, and the second round averaged 1.3 million viewers, down 19% from 2024.

Snooks continues: “Comparing the 2025 edition’s average viewership of 4.76 million to previous editions, Justin Thomas’ win in 2022 averaged 5.27 million, Phil Mickelson’s victory in 2021 averaged 6.58 million, and Collin Morikawa’s win in 2020 averaged 5.15 million viewers. Despite a decrease in average audience size this year, the situation is not overly concerning, given that 2025 has seen a rise in viewing figures for the PGA Tour. Rory McIlroy’s victory at The Masters attracted 12.7 million viewers on the final day of the tournament, marking a 33% increase from the previous year.”

The total prize money has increased every single year at the PGA Championship since the purse was $11 million in 2020. Scottie Scheffler, the winner of the 2025 PGA Championship, earned $3.42 million in prize money, an increase from $3.33 million that Xander Schauffele earned for his victory in 2024. The runners-up for this tournament, Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, and Davis Riley, received $2.052 million, while the 82 players who missed the cut received $4,000.

Snooks concludes: “Despite the continued prominence of four major championships’ dominance, other golf competitions have increased their prize pools to garner interest and compensate for their relative lack of prestige compared to the majors. In particular, the Players Championship, which is not one of the four majors, has announced a total prize fund of $25 million for its 2025 event, while the Masters Tournament recently featured a significant purse of $21 million, which is one of the four majors.”
